the caverns.

dona caverns.

In your explorations of the new area of the Temple, many of you have come to understand that there are a set of caverns by the water's edge of Lake Dona, reaching deep underwater. It seems to be blocked off by a great deal of magic -- any attempt to get in or out of the caverns is met with great resistance, almost like hitting a magical wall . . . until now.

The magical barrier, on October 5th, will abruptly vanish. No one is entirely sure why, and the mermaids that seem to be pleading ignorance to the entire thing, including telling you all why the caverns are so blocked off, abruptly vanish. The way is mysteriously clear, and once you make your way into the underwater tunnel (a length of a hundred feet or so, but with a pretty great width), you will emerge into a rather massive underwater/underground cavern. It's massive, beautiful, full of crystals and what appears to be marble. The water is a crystalline blue. And it is oddly . . . quiet. And, inside said cavern, there are three different passageways, stretching into seeming darkness.

The real question is, where are you going to go from here?

EXPLORING THE CAVERNS.
This event will require you to sign up in order to participate. You must comment below, by October 4th, 11:59 PM EST, in order to be considered for this event. Each group of people will go down a separate passageway, and each passageway will garner separate information about the Temple, the caverns, and other secrets to be divulged in the log that is posted. Comment below in Passageway A, B, or C to sign up. You will receive no clues as to which passageway is "best", but you may assume the following:
(1)It will be difficult terrain. This is a cavern. You will have to swim, climb, and navigate tunnels with fluctuating powers (both canon and Astoria-granted). That isn't to say that the supposed "normal" characters can't attend -- but consider the possibility of injury when signing up your character.

(2) Your character will have to swim. That's fairly self-explanatory. If your character doesn't know how to swim, then there may be a role for them in setting up camp outside to take care of people afterward, because . . .

(3) There will be creatures who will attack you. Have you ever watched a creepy cave documentary and seen those animals that have never seen the light of day? Like angler fish? Yeah, those things are in the water, on the walls, and really effing surprised to see a bunch of ground-dwellers stomping around their inhabitation. More details of the creatures will be posted in the log, but anticipate a scuffle/fight.

(4) Each passageway will garner different information about the Temple. We won't tell you what you're going to find in this OOC post, but it would likely behoove you all to separate yourselves out and not clog one specific group. ;)

(5) This event is opt-in only. If your character wants the information, they have to attend the exploration! However, there's nothing stopping characters from posting about what they find afterward, and having a group think about it.
Additionally, please also don't forget the following about the Sickness Phase Two plot restrictions:
(1) Canon powers will work intermittently for the duration of the event. It works almost in pulses, as if the magical dampening effect of the Temple has been knocked offline. One moment, your canon powers work perfectly! The next, not so much. How that translates into your character is up to you!

(1.A) This same rule applies to magical weapons/items you brought from home. Be careful when using them! ;)

(2) Astoria-granted powers will be offline intermittently for the duration of the event. See above explanation for canon granted powers – how that translates is up to you!

(3) The Temple remains overgrown. Trees will sprout from absolutely nowhere, new flowers will pop up, fruit will grow at a rapid rate on the branches. It’s going to get a little Jumani in here. You may find a tree has sprouted in your room and sort of broken your ceiling – oops? Too much healing energy.

(4) The Sickness should now be rid of the Circle by October 5th. Congratulations, you're all healthy!

Finally x 2, we just wanted to say thank you all for your patience! We elected to have a break at the Temple instead of launching into a world jump mostly due to mod scheduling, but we know how jarring this has been for new players who apped into the game with a different expectation of what is going on. We're definitely going to do something different in the future, and hope you all are looking forward to the next world jump, which will happen in the November app-round. Anticipate the TDM on October 24th with a new event-type 2spooky Temple shift, and we will be heading out to explore the universe after that.

As always, drop any mod questions below, and don't forget to sign up for a group!

hola!

now that the event log's gone up and i'm PSYCHED!! mako's in group B (kelpies!! ayyy) and i just wanted to check and see how much effect earthbending would have on the caverns/etc? i don't want to deus ex machina it all up so if it *is* bendable earth/whathaveyou i'll probably null it for all but a couple key moments but i wanted to check and see if it could be affected at all first.

(the only time mako will complain about having firebending instead of earthbending, tbh)
