She's had a lot of experience in decorum around great political leaders and she would conduct herself well and with courtesy! She would especially want to know if there's any other group (city, faction of merpeople, some sort of...underwater...pirates?) who might benefit from luring the princess away, or who would maybe possess something she wanted, whether for herself or because it could benefit her people.

Is she able to visit the brig herself? what would she find there?
