(1) The Queen would not be open to negotiation, per se, but the King would be inclined to speak with Hank if he mentions Kea, and goes through her. Ka'Pouli is angry, and has spent most of his life believing the Queen ripped away any semblance he had of a normal life. Kea's main plan is to appeal to both sides apparent love for her -- the Queen is very devoted to her daughter, and Ka'Pouli is also very attached to her. If Hank wants to shamelessly exploit the Princess' sheer light of good, he can totally manipulate the two sides into at least considering a ceasefire at the end of the event. :)
(2) The rift seems to be a creation of magic, and Kea's research with Ka'Pouli (insomuch that she supplied him a bunch of texts and learned from him and his studies) indicates that magical beings can only be killed by magic. She's uncertain of what type of magic works best, but she supposes hurling destructive-type magic at it would be a good starting point? She's not the best source o finformation.
. . . BUT If Hank speaks with Ka'Pouli and is serious about the ceasefire to try and work something out with Kea, Kea can get more information from Ka'Pouli about the rift -- overloading it with magic would cause something of a "short-circuit." Dumping anything at it, into it, or through it would cause the rift to "overload" and close up.
