(1) The mermen bear a striking resemblance to the merpeople who live in the Depths -- dark colored scales, sharper teeth, more suited to living in darkness than the warm light of the Palace of Wahine.

(2) The mermen will tell her that the King (and, by assumption, the Princess) were found bound together in the same bundle of seaweed, a gift from the gods to the people of Akvos. They have no such memory of the Queen's uprising, because they are long since removed from the initial war -- it seems that some mermaids followed their spouses/kin to the other world long ago, though the women in the mermen's troupe long since seem to be dead. Now, their species seems to be dwindling.

(3) The Princess will tell Vex that they were found together (according to Ka'pouli) bound together in seaweed. The Princess will tell her she has no idea who her "father" is -- Ka'pouli will tell Vex that they were a gift from the gods, to the people of Akvos. Who is telling the truth, no one is certain, but the mermen definitely repeat what Ka'pouli says, whereas the mermaids say Princess Kea was abandoned and the Queen took her in out of love and kindness. Kea will tell Vex that sometimes twins don't look exactly alike, too! But she feels a deep connection to Ka'pouli that she has never felt with anyone else . . . it's like she's found her other half.
