The Princess (after some talks with the King and helping him learn what the rift is about) will say that she's not entirely sure, but it is a construct of magic, and therefore magic should be able to destroy it. Overloading it with magic (like your own) should cause it to close, cutting off the other world where the menfolk live permanently.
