WORLD JUMP #2 INFORMATION: STRUXTA

the collected nations of struxta.

You arrive in the middle of a city - a large metropolis of steel, glass, lights, and metal. It feels a bit like an electrical board, a maze of buildings, streets, cars and trains. A technologically advanced city beyond what you could ever imagine. Everything is streamlined- sleek and efficient- clean and without the slightest hint of dirt or grime.

The skies are dark, almost like a single, looming cloud has covered the entirety of the city, possibly the entire world. There are strikes of lightning, intermittent and varied. Around you is a sprawling cityscape - buildings reaching up into the sky and beyond. Bright streaks of color scatter across the land before you - advertisements, signs, logos, titles. Despite the apparent lack of any kind of sun, the city itself is so brightly lit from the buildings and street lights alone. Holograms of massive size move between the buildings, like giants moving across the streets.

You’ll find that the city is the capital of the Collected Nations of Struxta, known by the people simply as Struxta. Walking the streets are figures of all shapes and sizes - humanoid and not, from two or three feet tall to up to fifteen. Some look human, almost identical, and other looks exactly like robots. Because that is one of the things you have been told, upon your entrance here. This city is entirely electronic - from the buildings, down to the natives as well.

This is the technological future every science fiction fan has dreamed of. An entire civilization of robotics - there is nothing of remotely natural description here. No plants, no animals, no humans (or human-adjacent) kinds. Think a clean, perfect version of the city and world Blade Runner was trying to be.

THE NATIVES
The natives are as varied and different as you’d expect to see in any large, international city. The only difference, here, is that the variations are of the mechanical nature. Every figure and every native of the Collected Nations of Struxta are, as you might have guessed, robotic. There are no natural life forms anywhere, that you can see.

These natives vary - there are androids who look, perhaps a bit uneasily, exactly like a human would. Others are of the more work-force shape. And others, still, as different and varied as you can imagine, from all times of mechanical advancement. The one thing you will notice, though, is that no matter the state of technology, all of these natives have gained sentience. They are independent thinkers, with the ability to live, process, and understand as anyone else. There are, just as there are with any other society, variations in personality, emotion, etc.

They are aware that they are robotic, in nature, and see no issue with it at all.

THE POLITICAL LANDSCAPE
In almost stark contrast to the previous jump, the political landscape in Struxta seems...almost perfect. There are few issues, few problems. From almost every political level, the nation seems at absolute peace. All problems are logically dealt with, votes are given where it is needed, but because of - what your characters will be told upon arrival is called - ‘The Mass Subconscious’ everything is done with everyone’s approval, and there doesn’t seem to be an unhappy robot i sight.

Because of this Mass Subconscious, there also doesn’t appear to be any political leaders, so much as a Political Organization Team, who is in charge of bringing in information, organizing it into easy to consume packets, and sends them out for download by every member of the Collected Nations for their vote.

There is no one leader, no one figure of power. Every single member of this gigantic city has a say, and more often than not that say is unanimous.

AREAS OF INTEREST
The Hostel
Just as it was in El Minha, it appears that upon arrival, each character is outfitted with a room at one of the largest, arguably most impressive skyscrapers in the city. Nearly two hundred stories tall, and with each floor nearly sixty floors. Every floor, every room, every door is of the highest tech and the more advanced security. The watches that Astoria has given each of the Circle Members act, in many ways, like a key, a credit card, an ID, and any other form of identification the players will need during their stay.

The bottom floor of the building is almost as large as a city block. It is open, sleek, and clean-cut. A kind of open meeting room, which has - upon inspection - been modified to include what appears to be a restaurant. Which - given the fact the group of Circle members who have arrived in the city - are the only natural bodies around? Includes the fact you are the only members of the city who have to consume food and nutrients through food and drink. Upon closer inspection, the technology used to make the food seems a few decades behind that of the rest of the city, but it still works, and the food can still be produced. It might taste a little weird and turn out to be some sort of glorified goop, but it has some nutritional value.

The Supercenter
Have you ever wanted to go shopping in the most technologically advanced superstore possible? Here is your chance! It appears that if you use your watch, you have been given a moderate amount of credit to buy clothing, toys, electronics, items, and anything else that might suit your fancy. You will not have enough to buy anything significant, such as limbs, organs, advanced computer technology, etc. The Supercenter is attached, as most of the buildings seem to be in this city, by a roadway of interlocking bridges and stairways- to a point that you could, if you wanted to, move about the entire city without stepping foot outside.

There are no restaurants or drink bars, but there are plenty of areas to relax and people (android) watch if you so desire. Otherwise, shop, explore, find weird mechanical devices of the likes you could never imagine back home. Everything is automated, but there are still helpful employees of various appearances at each of the stories to help you decide and browse- small, flying blocks that speak in primarily beeping noises that (thanks to Astoria's wonderful watches) you can somehow understand, completely human-appearing androids of the utmost style and elegance, and everything in between.

The Races
In the south-eastern area of the city, a large area of the city has been modified into a multi-level, vast, complicated race track of sorts. Think Tron, meets Speed Racer, meets a type of racing that is something all their own. It's fun as hell, fast as hell, and dangerous as hell. Sounds great, right?

What is simply known as ‘Racing’ here in Struxta is a complicated, but at its heart is exactly what it says: it is a race. A race of cars, through an obstacle course of everything you can imagine. It seems to all be linked, electronically, to a motherboard that decides - each race - what the drivers will find. Each race was drastically different, with dangers galore.

The rules are simple: if you have a car, and you have a driver, you are allowed to race. First one to complete the track, wins.

You might be able to find a sponsor, if you're willing to do some dirty work . . . or maybe someone incredibly stupid will let someone borrow their expensive car/bike. Either way, it's yours for the taking -- will you join the Races?

WORLD INTERACTIONS
In our previous world, we offered a another chance for characters to get involved with the setting and the world. This previous post (here) was posted in the middle of the world exploration. After some discussion, we've decided to post the options up front, to give players various ways to interact, learn more about the city, etc. By commenting under the appropriate tag below, we will be able to more specifically give information and possible plot details to player who wish to explore more about the city than what we've supplied here.

If you have specific questions about the world, please comment to the Questions tag below. If you have certain areas your character will explore in the world, including but not limited to the below options, please comment under the World Interactions tag!

1.) Are you looking for work? While there isn't any immediate need for hands as most robots and other natives can fill that void, they will not turn you away! Want to run some errands across town? Want to interact with native shoppers? Want to see what it's like just being a normal android?
2.) Or are you more interested in talking one on one with one of the natives? The Hostel has a few on staff, specifically assigned to the Welcome Committee, who are more than happy to sit down and answer questions you might have.
3.) Want to explore the city? There are numerous neighborhoods, districts, areas, and buildings to explore. These include, but aren't limited to: industrial, residential, manufacturing, software development, merchant district, transportation, security, and many others. Something about your watch has given you access to everything and anything you might want to go see, even restricted areas and buildings normally kept from the regular population, so feel free to go check it out!
4.) Are you interested in some of those racing bikes? There is an entire district dedicated to the creation, practice, upkeep, and enjoyment of the multitude and variations that the vehicles can come in. Do you want to build something yourself? Just test out your skills in an area that is less likely to leave you a pile of scrap metal? What kind of questions would you ask?
5.) WILDCARD - if you have anywhere we haven't mentioned, or that you as a player think could be cool to see in a city like this, let us know! You'll never know what kind of information you might uncover!

MOD NOTE As this is our second world jump, we wanted to make sure everyone is aware of one things - this is your world to explore. Ask questions, get involved. We as mods are giving you a setting to play with as you'd like! What happens here in Struxta is entirely based on your character's involvement. There will be plenty to interact with, little background plots to get mixed up in, and a city to explore. Ask questions! Pull one of us aside for some cool plotting! Figure out what you want to do and how you want to do it, and go.

Reminder: the log for this world jump will be posted Wednesday, July 11th at 12 AM EST. This post is purely for plotting, and there's a place below for questions and for the world interactions! Otherwise, feel free to leave a plotting comment below! Find some other Circle Members to explore with! For some reminders of what the previous world jump OOC post looked like, here is the one for El Minha, our first world. And, as a note, canon powers will not work unless specifically stated. The only magic you have is what Astoria has already granted you.

Astoria is very excited for you to enjoy your second World Jump~ ♥

I am so sorry Daylight is going to be everywhere in this world.

1 + 4. Since the Circle doesn’t start off with money, he’ll be more than happy to start working!! He’ll start doing labour related work due to his size and proportional strength and then try to venture into the world of racing by helping moving stuff, helping racers out of crashes, stuff like that. Meddy will also try to help when Daylight heads on over to the races by offering their medical services to those who need quick patchup.

2. Daylight will start asking all sorts of questions to the Welcoming Committee about their history, their culture, their ties with other worlds if that is possible. He'll ask if they have any recommendations for reading/watching material on learning more about the origins/machinations of Struxta and the Mass Subconscious. (He’ll also ask if certain names like Radiance or Lorem Laurel will ring a few bells for them. Never hurts... to try...)

3. In terms of exploration - Daylight will be interested in the merchant district (what do they sell? where do they get the materials?), the residential district (he's just going to try and make friends with random individuals no big deal), and the equivalency of the medical district for them. Mostly to see if he can request a checkup/diagnosis check to see how his systems are doing so far on the trip.

5.1. Daylight will be interested in seeing if there’s an art/music scene here in Struxta!! He’ll attempt to find art materials and music here and buy them if it's not too expensiv. Then look for the area where art is being sold or music is being played for the public and join in on that. If racing can be part of life than surely someone thought, 'What if we make lots of pretty noises/artworks?' He wants to believe.

5.2. He’ll also be looking for a body shop to see if they sell any paints or offer services for decals… Just... curious...

5.3. Daylight has an emission field! Known simply as an EM field, it allows him to project his feelings and concepts out via patterns of magnetic/electrical waves set in a frequency only detectable by mechanoids. He'll see if it'll work here on Struxta by pushing out warmth-greetings-happiness out out during his interactions to see if there are any reactions to that.

Try to run the track on foot!

he's too preoccupied with whether or not he could that he didn't stop to think if he should

1. Work
He could do some little jobs like delivering stuff. Tyrion tends to combine exploring and work.

2. Talking With the Natives
Totally down for that prompt, since he is a curious man and he knows that it is an advantage to be on good terms with the natives.

3. Exploring The City
He tries to see as much as possible and wouldn't say no to some company.

Other Idea: The Hostel

Tyrion loves food and drink, so he would be curious about everything offered and could be found there whenever he isn't exploring the city.
I would like to write something along the line of him sharing the table with someone and they are both testing out whatever the restaurant has to offer.

-> A good starter for new CR

If any of you would like to explore the town itself and don't mind being asked a thousand and one questions, I'm looking for folks who might like to travel along with Elizabeth and explore.

She'll have some knowledge thanks to extensive chatter with the Welcome Committee and Elizabeth is anything but shy so she'll be very helpful in opening lines of communication with natives as well. She does hail from the early 1800s however and so her knowledge of technology this advanced is very minimal.

Thanks, mods!

For a bit of follow-up on 2--once he comes to terms with the fact that he has to read (ugh), would he be able to find any information on the makers/masters in the Library? (He'd want to search for whatever words the Welcome Committee would've used, plus "people," "humans," and "homunculus/homunculi.")

Also, I assume that this isn't a standard "print book" kind of library? Any chance that there's a friendly librarian android who'd help an extremely tech-challenged guy search for information?

For Vern:

1. re: jobs, what sort of work would be available apart from errand running and racing-related stuff? is it possible to do admin-related stuff or to work outdoors, because he'd be looking into that!

5. is it possible to leave the city and get a look at what's outside/bordering it? he would also try to do this thing.

For Mikleo:

2. what written resources might there be if someone wants to research the history of struxta and its people and how they came to be this way? how mouch would the welcome committee know about this?

5. what would the reaction to a very large dragon be if one took a flight over the city?

(i'm sorry i know this is a lot, i just play two nosy parkers now)

1. WORK HARD FOR THE MONEY. Or, rather...Prompto will probably spend himself dry the first day and will pick up some extra jobs so he can buy more cool shit. He will literally run some errands, speeding across town to make deliveries, etc. What sort of places could he expect to find employment at?

4. SPEED RACER. Prompto will quickly learn that he can't run these races on foot without getting himself killed, but he won't he wholly satisfied with just picking up any old bike to race with, no sir! He'll pool some of the credits he earned up above to put into upgrading a bike, and while he doesn't have the technical knowledge to work on one himself, he'll be eager to learn everything he can and work with others on the process. He's great at being told what to do!

5. VIRTUAL REALITY. Since I saw AR games mentioned up above in the questions, Prompto will be hella all over that. He'd be playing all manner of games, and would be interested to see just how in-depth the simulations can go and how much freedom they allow for. Also he'd check out whatever the esports equivalent is if there is one!

2. WELCOME COMMITTEE. Blake will be skeptical about how happy everyone appears to be, despite the fact that every android is so different from one another. It will be difficult for her to accept that their differences don't drive them apart, so Blake will be asking plenty of questions about how The Mass Subconscious works and how they can be sure that everyone has an equal voice. She'll find it just a little too good to be true.

3. THE UNDERGROUND. Since the political landscape appears peaceful enough, Blake will be looking beneath the surface (perhaps literally) to see if there are any signs of disquiet. She will be out on the streets looking for signs of crime or gang-related activities, and will be looking out for hideouts for any groups that may be in opposition to the masses. She doesn't trust how "good" everything seems to be here, so she's looking for evidence that everything isn't awesome, and keeping her ear to the ground for any signs of trouble.

All of these are a little related in the sense that Leo's looking for inspiration here, and wanting to explore. So different kinds of "exploring" for everything.

1. In this sense, Leo's more interested in seeing what the state of music is in this world. If he can find inspiration in the beep boops out there, he will, but his creativity is best focused on music-oriented things that he can perhaps swing as a method of ""working.""

2. He loves friends. He wants to make friends with the robots and learn more about them/their creative process, esp since they're in a hivemind kind of setup. Also, again, learning about what they might see as "music."

3 + 4. Sena won't let Leo race. :( But he's going to be exploring, and will be watching the races where meanie Sena won't let him actually participate. So what kind of places can he wind up going, possibly ones that are typically considered off-limits, in his exploration and quest for musical inspiration? He will literally go anywhere and everywhere, and has a terrible concept of keeping himself out of trouble........

So Keith is going to be running through the city to investigate and learn as much about everything as he can because he expects shit to hit the fan at some point like it did in El Minha.

If anyone is looking for exploring/info gathering buddies, I have a mullet for them. Also he'll definitely be interested in the cycle races. Like. Super interested. So racing buddies?

As an FYI, plan is to propel Keith into a canon update mid-month so come hang out with him before he goes from moody teenager to moody twenty-something with dramatic new scars overnight. Or hang with him after he updates, help him feet his feet back under him? Please? :)

Library + Security Field Trip

[personal profile] foundafamily 2018-07-08 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
So per the world interactions, Firo's going to have to visit the library. This is a daunting task for him, so he'd welcome anybody who wants to come along and see what they can find! (Fellow tech-challenged people and people from the past who want to fumble with him are more than welcome, as are people who actually know what they're doing and all those in between!)

He's also going to be poking around the Security area if anyone wants in on that too! Somebody please explain to him what viruses are.

Libraries and people from the past you say! Maes has a decidedly love/hate relationship with research, but will totally be on board for this since finding out secrets is his jam.

And he'll try to be a little more careful about it this time too.

He'd probably done to help with security as well...though would not be of much help on the viruses with computers front...

1) Bring on the part time job hell. She's got plenty of customer service experience, but she'll be eager to put her new barrier magic to the test, so anything slightly more dangerous that requires boxing up someone or something would suit her just fine as well.

2) Minako will ask for some basics about the world and its inhabitants, but she'll be more eager to go out and see things with her own eyes than do a Q&A session for too long. She will be curious if these androids have souls, though. As in, if they can tell, if they believe they have one, etc.

3) Exploring with Koromaru! Given that there apparently aren't any animals in Struxta, she'll be curious how the androids react to a pupper. Other things of note: playing all of those VR games and enjoying the entertainment in general, looking and hopefully purchasing this world's version of a portable music system, looking for a school??? If those exist??? Because she wants to be nostalgic for a bit. If they exist she will absolutely sneak in (or try to) so she can sit in on some classes. She'll also try to get up to the roof of one of the tall ass skyscrapers to have some Feelings about her death, if she doesn't get in trouble for doing that.

plotting for Minako!

[personal profile] complementing 2018-07-08 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Minako's world interactions post has the majority of what I plan to do with her, but here's another list of things I'd like to offer as chances for CR.

  • Exploring with Koromaru! She and her puppy will mostly be in the Supercenter, enjoying themselves and trying not to feel depressed about everything that happened at the end of Persona 3. It's her first world hop, so she'll be more interested in indulging in everything it has to offer instead of info gathering. She's more than happy to do things as a group!

  • Info gathering! Despite all the time she's going to spend having fun, she's not opposed to helping with research. You just have to ask nicely.

  • Sparring and practicing with magic! She has barrier magic instead of summoning powers, so she'll be trying everything she can to improve her skills as soon as possible. Volunteers willing to let themselves be boxed in are very welcome. Also, she doesn't want to get rusty with her spear, so she'll probably find someplace quiet to put in some PT time. If she doesn't get in trouble for it.

  • Talking about androids! Wanna hear about one of her best friends who was an android that was slowly turning more human? She will happily talk about Aigis if you're curious. Guaranteed way to get a rank 1 Social Link with her (๑ゝ◡◕๑)
  • foundafamily: (Default)

Awesome! I'll be putting up a top-level with a prompt for this on the event log, if we want to have them meet in the library! (We could handwave Firo having asked Hughes if he wants to go too, since he wouldn't be shy about inviting other Circle members. Or if Hughes is going anyway, they could just meet there.)

Yes, please be careful, Hughes... :(

Then they can both be confused! Maybe they'll muddle through.

I was joking earlier when I wrote that Dave is a walking convenience store AND YET HERE WE ARE

are you sick of tasteless protein glop? craving some orange soda? or a jelly donut? Dave is your guy — he can conjure up pretty much anything, provided he speaks about it in rhyme. he won't go around announcing that this is something he can do, but he's made weird stuff for enough people that I'm fine with assuming your character's heard about it through others.

if your character's got a request, feel free to hit up his inbox here! or let me know and we can plan out something else.

also, as a warning, his power is pretty limited in that he can only do it three times a day. so, he's probably going to make your character do something stupid in exchange.

This sounds like a good plan. Either option works for me, as Maes isn't the type to NOT be a social butterfly. He'll be butting his nose in everywhere so it wouldn't be too surprising if he had invited himself along or dropped hints to be invited.
