What he will get from the BG's, in their broken, glitchy speech, is that thousands of years ago they were pushed underground by the plague, in hopes to escape the worst of it. Their consciousness was uploaded not long after, but as the top-side has continued to upgrade and lose sense of who they once were, or have been overtaken by the Mass Consciousness, they refused to allow themselves to be lost to time and returned underground.

There is a battery they have access to near one of their working exits, which they explain opens near where they say the Races is known to be. When they need a charge, they return there to charge up, but because they have some outdated hardware, they can retain a charge for much longer than most other robots. It takes them three to four days before they need to go back and charge, and when they do they generally do in the dark to keep away from the other natives.

With regards to resources, the BG's will explain that they don't know what will help to stop the storm, and the above ground has changed so much since they were last there, they would have no idea where to find the resources if they even knew what to look for.
