It will have an effect, yes! But the monster will not be able to tell the range to keep away from it. The light will not affect the shadows specifically, and therefore if the monster hides within them it will not affect the monster there. The monster will try and keep a distance but will not have any direct knowledge of how much to keep, but will try to avoid any direct contact.
