the night of wonders.QUICK LINKS
The day begins as normal, whether you wake for work, for adventure, or for no reason at all. It could be in the inn, in another room, under the stars - wherever you find yourself, it’s a peaceful day. A normal day. It is around lunch that the letters start to arrive, whispers across town in a slowly rising excitement. A party? A ball? What is the guild putting on this time? Your letter arrives just before your day ends, a young child running up to wherever it is you’ve taken a moment to rest, holding out the letter with very little ceremony before taking off again. The bag at their hip lets you know they’ve been at it all day. Unfolding the letter, you find the opening words - Welcome to the Night of Wonders.Though the name may be a bit misleading, as this party is set to last much more than just one night. In fact, it seems that there are plans for every night of the week. Take part in the dancing, the tournament, the night under the stars, or simply enjoy the festivities, because no matter where you decide to be, the magic will be with you as well. Magic that feels a bit different than you’re used to. Magic that appears to do a bit more. You’re not sure what clues you in first, whether it’s the lights or the music or the food, but suddenly the whole town feels a bit more full, a bit more crowded. During these festivities, it appears that the Guild has brought another surprise. Another gift for the travellers who have helped the town so much. Have you missed someone specific from home? Wanted to see their faces? Because it appears that at least for a couple of nights, more have been brought to celebrate with you. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ACATALEPSY. Hello and welcome to our Faerun Event, as well as Acatalepsy’s First Anniversary Fourth Wall Event! As mods, we want to thank everyone who has helped us along the way with this fun little experiment of ours. Modding has been a giant lesson in adaptability and flexibility, and we are so thankful to have a playerbase as willing to step up and help as y’all.
To celebrate, we wanted to open up the game to a little fourth wall event! Tell your friends, spread the word - Astoria’s control on the rift has slipped and now anyone can come play for a time.
Besides - who doesn’t love a reason to dress up and party? Or join a renaissance fair? Or put out some fires . . . wait, what? THE NIGHT OF WONDERS.As the day arrives for the beginning of this long-rumored festival, you start to notice that no expense has been spared. The entire town seems to shut down for the occasion, though there is a list of open establishments in the Guild Hall, as well as a schedule of events.
The theme of The Night of Wonders (which, incidentally, lasts nearly two weeks) is one of rebirth. The people of Mirabar are celebrating the continued survival of their home, the success of taming the Giant Rebellions across Faerun, and their resident adventurers! You are all thanked, profusely, for helping reinvigorate Mirabar with your hard work, and the people of Mirabar want to celebrate you for it!
The Guild Hall is very specifically the center of the festivities, where all the food and dance will be contained, Guildmaster Aeryn has graciously provided a good amount of coin and space toward decoration, food, and the like. How kind of her. (She's really not that enthused with your presence, but she does seem reluctantly grateful for your help in completing her empty tasks for her Guild.)
So, some finer details of The Night of Wonders!➜ The festival itself will have dancing and food and music every single night of the festival, culminating in a big fireworks celebration at the very end of the week! How romantic… hopefully you have someone nice to spend it with!
➜ The ball is going to last from May 8th to May 21st. Throughout the duration of the festival, there will be different events to participate in! Remember -- participation is the basis of the success or failure of Faerun, so you had better get to work . . . or get to having fun. Whatever floats your boat.
➜ Adventurers who submitted tasks will get discounted pricing on all fare during The Night of Wonders!
The very end of the festival will culminate in The Night of Wonders itself - a masquerade ball with food, dancing, and fun! There will also be a ceremony to honor the adventurers of Mirabar, and characters will be able to participate with the people of Faerun in honoring their comrades in arms. But overall? It is a joyful event! Have fun picking out clothes and designing your masks. FESTIVAL EVENTSIn addition to the dancing and the masquerade, The Night of Wonders festival will have events meant to celebrate the adventurers of their city! There are two main events: a fighting tournament and a kayak race.
Some things of note regarding these two events!➜ For the fighting tournament, you may use magic, physical strength, however you would like to win!
➜ The ultimate winner will be determined by RNG. You may self-select whoever you want to fight against, but we will pick the ultimate winner from the list of sign-ups, and they will be announced on the log!
➜ For the purposes of the tournament, the winner will be a member of the Circle! However, Fourth Wall participants can certainly join in the fight if you’d like.
➜ For the kayak racing, you can sign up for a team of three people to operate a kayak to participate in the race. We will RNG the winner of the kayak race tournament, and they will be announced on the log!
➜ As with the fighting tournament, the winner will be a member of the Circle! However, Fourth Wall participants can certainly create top levels to kayak race if they’d like.
➜ Please sign up for either tournament by May 8th, 2019 by 8:00 PM EST. We're going to announce the winners on the log, so please make sure you sign up by then! In addition to these two events, throughout the duration of the festival, there are a ton of food booths, festival games, and the like! It is essentially a ren faire. You can totally find a giant turkey leg and some mead. You can also buy leather goods, weaponry, and participate in a variety of games, such as archery contests, dunking booths, jousting (with slow horses and toy sticks) and pie eating.
As a general note: remember that you can only bring back to the Temple what you can carry. :) THE FIRES.However, not everything is fun and merrymaking. A few days into the festival, Aeryn will be furiously trying to track down some source of ire that has sprung up in her backyard. Posters will begin to be circulated, demanding information on an arsonist in Mirabar -- with a handsome reward of 500 GP to anyone who catches them.
Arsonist? you ask. But it only takes a few moments to figure out what is going on.
Throughout the festival, various fires will spring up at different locations. A booth will burn to the ground on the first day, followed by a kayak, a set of jousting equipment, and other incidents throughout the duration of the festival. No one is entirely sure where these fires are coming from, but assistance in keeping them contained is needed and necessary, throughout the festival.
Is someone trying to sabotage it? Is it a wizard who can’t control their powers? Or is this someone’s dumb idea of a joke? Time will tell . . . probably, but feel free to investigate! In the meantime, please help control the random incidents of arson that seem to be popping up throughout the event. Left without tracking down the source, they will surely wreak havoc.
NOTE: You can feel free to make-up where these fires are. They are truly appearing in random events, throughout the duration of the festival. Would your character try and track down the source? Help organize ways to fight the chaos they cause? Let them be? What will your character(s) do?
Finally . . . let's get to the good part. Who can join the Circle for this event? FOURTH WALL RULES.➜ Current players who are at the three character max can certainly join in for the fun of the event, but cannot app a fourth character if they decide to play them past Faerun.
➜ Our standard application rules DO NOT apply! Fanon OCs, doubles, or AUs are all allowed. Our rule concerning canons being at least 30 days old also does not apply. However, you should be aware of these rules if you or your friends decide to join us. Even if they are allowed in the fourth wall, our rules will apply to applications and incoming characters. Aka, Fanon OCs or AUs can be played on the fourth wall but will not be allowed to apply into the game. If you have any questions about our application rules, please check them out here.
➜ These threads will be considered canon unless the players decide otherwise! So if you play with someone in the fourth wall and they decide they would like to app, the fourth wall threads will be considered a canon part of the character's memories/history/etc. They will be treated, in a very small way, like a CRAU. If you have questions about that, please let us know below!
➜ We’re in the middle of an AU event! Feel free to AU your character accordingly! Check out our original OOC post here for rules, but essentially: pick a D&D race/class for your character, and cap them to level five. If you have any questions, drop them down below in the Mod Questions thread!
➜ Your character will arrive smack-dab in the middle of Mirabar with absolutely no idea how you got there. Astoria will not welcome you here; in fact, you just seem to appear out of absolutely nothing. One moment you were home, and the next you were here, with absolutely no explanation of how you got here. Guess you’ll have to ask around to find out?
➜ Fourth wall participants can participate in the event-writ large if they like! Drop a comment below for questions, feel free to sign up for events, etc.
➜ And, most importantly, have fun. :) Reminder: the log for this world jump will be posted May 8th 9:00 PM EST. This post is purely for plotting, and there's a place below for questions and for the world interactions, or possible characters you may want to 4th wall with! Otherwise, feel free to leave a plotting comment below! We are, as always, open to any kind of player interactions with regards to the ball. if you have a question of how you can get involved, something you'd like to see, or something your character may want to add to the festivities, let us know! |

He will probably also look into it to see if he can do anything to keep it from happening again. He is not likely smart enough to figure things out on his own, but he will probably go around asking.
