welcome to joikull.QUICK LINKS
The first thing you notice: the temperature. You were comfortable when you fell asleep, but now it’s very, very cold. Even if you pull the blanket up over your head, the chill seems settled into your bones. How did it get this cold? You were sure the flurries at the Temple last week were not in your bedroom. When you finally peek out to face the rest of the world, it will start to make sense. Your room appears to be made of ice now. You are, as far as you can tell, inside an igloo. Your blanketed bed is made of wood, but everything else inside is ice. The door. The desk. The floor. It’s all carved out of the stuff, to an expert degree, sure, but it’s still ice. Hope you picked up an extra jacket or maybe a pair of gloves before leaving the Temple! WHEN YOU WAKE UP.Welcome to Joikull! You’ve stepped into a Winter Wonderland. And we mean that literally - snow is all around you. The buildings are grand, but carved from ice. The streets, the carts on them, and everything else in the world all seem to be made of perfect, unmelting ice. Even the townspeople are made of snow, held together in a kind of flurry that has to be magic. Where the townspeople lack in physical warmth, they make up for in personality - specifically, their interest in you, as Travellers. Have you come to help them? Have you come to visit? Let them show you the wonder and beauty of their home!
You’ve stumbled into a well-run, peaceful citadel. The natives are friendly and inviting to you as tourists to their home. They are very happy to show you around. This is their home, their joy, and they hope you take as much enjoyment out of staying here as they do.
They’re very proud of it, after all.
➜ Astoria powers ARE ACTIVE. Canon powers are NOT active.
➜ You and the rest of the Circle have been brought to a city named Joikull. It is inhabited by a native population made entirely of snow. They have faces, limbs, and features that you can see, and they can speak to you.
➜ Everyone seems to speak a common language - remember, that is probably thanks to your bracelets.
➜ The network IS WORKING. None of the natives have access to it. JOIKULL: MORE THAN JUST THE COLDJoikull, upon first glance, is a winter wonderland. The city is built on the top of a mountain, high up in the clouds, and is sculpted and crafted from ice by a means that is beyond your imagination. It's stunning, and it seems so fragile it's almost impossible that it exists. But here you are, looking directly at an ice structure the size of a building. You can see through it, and yet when you walk in and head up the stairs, it doesn't shatter beneath your feet.
The people of the city are extremely friendly and excitable. They are eager for the chance to show others the way they live. They will show you around and explain everything in great detail, if you ask. Most of their life is familiar, despite the fact they exist as swirls of ice and snow. They live in homes, have jobs and families, and they want you to have as happy a time as possible. That is why, they have decided, it is time for a festival! A celebration of their new friends! Let them show you all of the brand new ways they have learned to craft, to cook, to make, and to live.
This place seems deceptively peaceful. Veterans to the world jumps, however, know they're never sent somewhere without a problem to solve. Think back to Struxta: this might be a problem the native themselves are not aware of yet. Get investigating!
Throughout the duration of this world there will also be some fun side tasks to perform. Things to do that will earn you either coin, presents, or something more. The modteam will be keeping track of activity throughout the duration of the world via a section on this post where characters can link their activity. Participation in these tasks can influence the success or failure of the mission.
Like Mirabar, the characters and their actions in Joikull will be what either saves of dooms this world.
➜ MOD QUESTIONS ask whatever specifics, the city, plots, etc you need to ask about. While there isn’t a list of locations: this is a giant fortress of a city. You can expect to find businesses, locations, structures, etc. that you would normally find in an older city. It’s structured very similarly to
➜ COMPLETED TASKS submit your work. Any amount of effort in Joikull, whether it be assisting the natives or investigating should be linked below to get credit for it, to save Joikull!
➜ Everything native to this place is made of ice and snow. And we do mean everything. The beds seem to be a gift from Astoria, as the natives have never had ‘wood’ or ‘blankets’ inside their city walls before. ➜ Think Elsa’s ice tower, but on a grander, metropolitan scale. ➜ However, they seem to be able to magically create food and fires - though they seem surprised by it themselves - to help make you more comfortable!
➜ The people, on average, are very excited that you are here, and are very interested in being the best hosts. They will show you around the city, explain to your their customs and their ways, and want you to enjoy your time here to the best of your ability.
➜ The city is cold, but you will not freeze to death. Whether it's magic or something else, while you may be uncomfortable and on the wrong side of really cold, there will be no physical or lasting effects of the cold. A NEW KIND OF MAGIC.It doesn’t take long before you start to notice that things around Joikull are... different. It’s nothing immediately obvious, and it will take some investigation and astute observation, but things around the city seem to be changing. Rapidly.
Magic is in the air. Something different than the kind of frosty, glittering magic that has created the city. This interloping magic is warm. How troublesome, in a city made from ice and snow. Why aren’t the natives more worried about this?
As it is, they’re not worried at all. They think this new magic is wonderful. It's is opening them up to new experiences they've never had before. Make water, create colorful displays, move items, have food. They’re still learning about it too. A good amount of this ‘new magic’ seems to be accidental discovery on their parts. Maybe you could provide some insight into what types of things they can learn to do?
➜ There is a new magic in Joikull that seems out of place. But the natives don’t think so, and are in fact, excited to have access to it.
➜ This magic takes all kinds of forms, though the one common factor to them all is that they provide some kind of heat. ➜ This heat is not melting or harming the city or its people, but there does seem to be a subtle change of the buildings and walls. They are in fact melting, but so slowly and subtly the natives don’t notice, or aren't concerned about. BEYOND THE WALLS.Getting natives of Joikull to talk about the world outside of their walls is a surprisingly difficult task. They are experts at diverting the conversation, changing topics, or avoiding answers all together. Even if pressed, there will be very few natives willing to discuss it. Most will just shrug and walk away, ending the conversation.
What they will tell you is that the rest of the world is much like theirs - made of ice and stone and snow. It is dangerous, and most don’t go beyond the walls for fear of never returning. It is not a safe journey. They don’t actually know if there is anything beyond the walls. Why would you be so curious? Why does it matter? Can they interest you in a game? Maybe a ‘warm’ drink?
You think there is something out there. Just beyond the horizon, you can see and sense something is off. Something that is shifting the colors of the sky. You’re not sure if the natives simply don’t see it, or if they’re completely ignoring the signs. And there do seem to be signs - a little more rock than snow on the caps, a glow that can’t be normal.
If you decide to get together to investigate, it will take some preparations. The strange glow seems to be a couple of days journey away - and there’s also the problem of how to get out of the city. The walls that surround you do happen to drop off over a sheer cliff.
Some investigation will lead you to a boarded up door, and beyond that, a labyrinth of stairs.
➜ If you do decide to investigate the strange glow, it will take about 4 days to travel to it. 1 to get through the maze of stairs that make up the entire foundation of Joikull, and 3 to reach the glow.➜ There does NOT have to be a single group that goes over this! You can split up however you like, or organize however you like. ➜ The watches/network will work during this trip, and you will have contact with any of the Circle members who do not follow.
➜ Sign up here if you'd like to take part in this part of the world hop! IN SUMMATION:➜ Welcome to Joikull, a metropolis made of ice and snow, populated by people made of ice and snow..
➜ Astoria powers do work. Canon powers do not work.
➜ There has been an introduction of a strange new magic that doesn’t seem to make much sense given the state of this world. What does a city of ice and snow need with fire?
➜ There is lots of shopping to be done! Festivities and games! Have some fun!
➜ You are able to leave the city, if you prefer a journey. What happens when you venture down into the underground labyrinth of staircases, though, is unknown. Pack a lunch! :)
➜ A strange glow can be seen on the horizon, and you’re pretty sure it doesn’t belong. Will you go investigate? Because you definitely don’t have to. The natives would prefer to stayed, anyway.
➜ Your magical watches will be working.
➜ There’s a task board of things the natives need help completing. If you feel so inclined. These tasks will be mostly related to helping set up and run the festival! Which is a little...counter productive considering the festival is in your honor. Oh well!
➜ And, most importantly, have fun. :)
mod note. This is your world to explore. Ask questions, get involved. Some of the places above has specified the need for player exploration in order to uncover, so please touch on everything you'd like to touch on. We as mods are giving you a setting to play with as you'd like! What happens here in Joikull is entirely based on your character's involvement. There will be plenty to interact with, little background plots to get mixed up in, and a new location to explore. Ask questions! Pull one of us aside for some cool plotting! Figure out what you want to do and how you want to do it, and go.
Reminder: the log for this world jump will be posted June 15th at 9:00 PM EST. This post is purely for plotting, and there's a place below for questions and for the world interactions! Otherwise, feel free to leave a plotting comment below! Find some other Circle Members to explore with!
And, last but not least -- Astoria is very excited for you to enjoy your sixth World Jump~ ♥ |
MOD QUESTIONS.

2. Are they at all like the ones that sprung up around the Temple while the weather was in flux?
3. On the off-chance you build a snowman here, what are the odds of it coming to life?
4. With some persuasive prodding, would we be able to find out:
a. who built the citadel?
b. how old is it?
c. did the
globallocal warming really only start after our arrival, or have there been any prior signs heralding it?no subject
2.) Very similar, but they will have no idea what you are talking about if you bring it up.
3.) If you have a native help, it will come to life, yes! But if you build the snowman on your own, sadly it will remain cold and lifeless.
4.) a) The citadel has been there for as long as any of them can remember, but there are stories about The First Freeze, and how once it was over, the citadel remained.
b) Longer than anyone remembers, but an approximate time could be figured it! And it would end up equating to about 32,500 years as you know them.
c) It did start before your arrival, but not very long before. Within a few months, most likely.

The most important question! What sort of plant life (if any) is there to be found in this new world?

But yay! Ice flowers!

Can Ilde use the ice to amplify her inspiration power, since it's light based........... I just want to make everything sparkle, don't look at me.

It does not seem to have any effect on their magic, though!

2. How quickly is the sides breaking up?
3. How far does the influence spread ie the way the ice is melting from the crack when they reach it in the log?
no subject
2) Substantially, but not aggressively. It will take months for it to reach the city, if it stays at this rate.
3) The influence is spreading much more quickly than the crack. The snow is melting to a point that it’s obviously different each day.
no subject
Okay!
1. Is there anything unusual senses wise around the crack? Like how the rift felt a little weird. Powers working fine around it?
2. Is there anything around the crack besides crumbling edges and ice melting?
3. Are the air currents changing too? Is there any wildlife at all?
no subject
2.) No, it just looks like the ice and rock are being worn down and crumbling. Almost like it’s consuming the earth/ground itself.
3.) There is no wildlife, though you can’t tell if that’s because something happened to them or if they are staying as far from it as they can. And unfortunately the air currents are a bit unpredictable all over this world, so it’s impossible to tell if they’re changing at all.
COMPLETED TASKS.
Any level of interaction will do. We want to see how your character is throwing in their lot to assist the people of Joikull. There is no time limit on this - you may continually link threads/more than one for the duration of your time here.
Finally, let people know if you want more help! Consider this a CR building exercise, too. :) Not all tasks can be completed by one person, so let people know if you are open to more threads!
Fill out the little form below!

Character: Mollymauk Tealeaf and company
Link To Task/Event: Dancing with Sheryl, Beyond the Walls with Konoha, Cooking with Ren
Can more people join in? I would be happy to do more things if people would like them! I took a week off early in the month for vacation so it kinda knocked me off my game for this event, so I've been playing catch-up more than I'd like.
Mini-Description:
Molly is contributing to Sheryl's attempts to win the dance-off.
He is also helping Ren crowd control some of the Joikullians who want to learn how to cook.
And he is venturing beyond the wall with Roy, Hughes, Riza, and Konoha.

Character: Klan Klang
Link To Task/Event: Tavern Furniture-Carving with Krolia, and also a tl prompt for the other ice-carving task. Off the same toplevel, she's also discussing investigation angles with Keith if that counts.
Can more people join in? For the toplevel, absolutely! I'm happy to take new tag-ins.
Mini-Description: Klan helps out at Marietta's with the whole melty furniture situation and discusses the potential invention of air conditioning with Krolia. Klan and Keith discuss trying to get the locals to talk about the current situation without getting the "everything is fine and nothing is wrong" reaction.

Character: Ren Suzugamori
Link To Task/Event: Toplevel feat. cunning schemes to build a local with Firo and cooking task with Molly and Pidge, Beyond the Walls with Ruby and Carmen.
Can more people join in? Since both of these are toplevel links, I'm still open to tag-ins for help with stuff!
Mini-Description: Ren and Firo build a snowman with the intent to rope a local in at some point to ~bring it to life~, Molly and Ren both entertain and teach some Jois how to cook, and Ren ropes in Pidge to do the same thing later. In Beyond the Walls, the group discuss the big beasties stalking them but for now are electing not to attack.
BEYOND THE WALLS.
no subject
He would likely enlist Maes and Riza to assist him, but would take on any help that wants to tag along! This isn't an exclusive mission at all.
no subject
She's likely to try and enlist one or more of the other Voltrons first, but generally open to tagging along with anyone that might need another pair of hands.

Carmen is in.

Also she probably won't go completely by herself so I'm good for an assigned group or someone claiming her for their adventure.
