world jump # 3 plotting post: phase one.

the kingdom of akvos.

You arrive to the thunderous sounds of water crashing onto rocks, so cacophonous that you are temporarily deafened for the sound. It is intensely loud, the rushing of water through rocks, and it takes a moment for you to regain your senses, only to realize that . . . not all of you are here.

For the first time, dearest Circle members, you have arrived in a world separated. You have not arrived together, in a group -- no, you are separated. And time will tell how quickly you all rejoin with one another. But more on that later. First, let's talk about those fish people, shall we?

THE NATIVES
The natives here appear to be meshes of humanoids and fish, in a plethora of colors. However, the one thing that seems to be a little odd is that they all seem to be feminine in nature. Indeed, there are no male Akvos natives that you can see, and should you ask, the Akvons will sneer in disgust. There have been no menfolk here for centuries. Why do you ask?

There are mermaids that look like lionfish, that have bodies with shark-like fins, or angelfish. The more brightly colorful the mermaid seems to be, the higher status they seem to have. The more dull ones tend to keep to the shadows, lurking and working in the deeps. The brighter colored ones tend to freely move throughout the space of Akvos, popping up to the surface to sun themselves on nearby rocks, playing instruments, enjoying food, and laughing with each other.

However, there isn't necessarily tension between the brightly-colored mermaids and the more dull mermaids. Instead, it seems to just be a natural pecking order. The flashier mermaids are the ones more inclined to art, to attention-seeking, and to craftmanship. The duller mermaids hunt with spears smaller fish and collect plantlife in the water for food -- and, occassionally, you can see the two working together to accomplisht eh same goals. All in all, there's an understanding of role in this society, and all of the mermaids are intent on working together in order to make this society work.

THE POLITICAL LANDSCAPE
Akvos is a monarchy, ruled by Queen Moi'wahine'o'kawai . . . but the natives assure you that she responds more easily to Wai. The Queen seems absolutely beloved by her constituents and fiercely protected by her royal guard of shark-based mermaids, who don't seem to allow anyone near her at any given time.

Should you get a glimpse of her, she is a beautiful woman with deep red tentacles and a fierce presence . . . initially. However, Queen Wai has a sweet personality, and though she carries around a spear for her own protection, she seems to be more inclined to play with the small merchildren tugging on her fins and hands rather than bark orders. Indeed, Queen Wai seems to be a benevolent ruler.

In addition to the Queen, there seems to be a Princess -- Princess Keali'i'wahinewai (or Princess Kea for short). However, you don't seem to see her anywhere, though she is rumored to be of resplendent beauty, much like her mother. Maybe there's a reason why the royal guard of shark-maids seem to be so intensely protective of the Queen . . . or maybe they're just always like that.

At any rate, the Queen is in charge of protecting Akvos, which appears to be a society unto itself. She seems to have a kind heart, but is suspicious of outsiders . . . and is definitively suspicious when newcomers show up in her world, particularly those who are not of her kin. She seems to be more intent on other matters, though, and certainly isn't ordering anyone to attack. Indeed, her mind rests on darkness on the horizon . . . which, unfortunately, will soon wind up to be your problem.

AREAS OF INTEREST
Here's the thing, Circle Members -- typically, this is where we would list off a bunch of areas of interest in Akvos for you to explore freely. However, for the first portion of this mission, you are all separated. And even more complicated, your magical watches that you use to communicate seem to be not working. You quickly find out that you are stuck with members of the Circle and you must explore the initial leg of this journey together without the assistance of individuals you may have come to already know. Your mission, should you choose to accept it? Survive. And get as much information as you can as to what is "wrong" in Akvos before you can rejoin the other members of the Circle.

So, below, find areas of interest -- however, the first log of Akvos will be splitting up the entirety of the Circle into groups. You will be able to explore the entirety of Akvos . in later logs/events, but for the first event, you are bound to the area you arrive at and the individuals you are "listed" with for the first log. Find out "where" you are in the comments below. We have arranged the lists by RNG and, when RNG has failed us, made sure to put new players inter-mingled with old players so everyone can get some fresh new CR. :)

ARRIVAL A: THE PALACE OF WAHINE.
The first group arrives at the Royal Palace of Wahine, smack-dab in the bustling center of what appears to be the lost city of Atlantis. It is in an area of Akvos that is completely underwater, with gentle currents wafting through the water that guide people on their merry way. If you're concerned about suddenly being underwater, neverfear -- for some reason, you seem to be able to breathe, though talking results in an odd amount of bubbles before you get the hang of how to use your vocal cords with the water running through them.

The Palace is a massive entity, full of beautiful architecture, some shopping, and a large population of merpeople who seem to be more or less inclined to ignore you. It is also here that the Royal Family of Akvos resides -- Queen Wai herself can be found here, and may be willing to speak with these Otherworlders if her curiosity is piqued. In fact, once the residents of this area of Akvos spot these bizarre people, immediate rumors begin to spread -- more of them? More landfolk, more menfolk? What a travesty . . .

There's also a lot of talk about the Princess of their people, who has been missing for a little over a week. The Queen is absolutely frantic with worry, but is putting on a strong face. You may be able to dig up some more information on her whereabouts by asking certain folks . . . depending on who you ask.

ARRIVAL B: THE DEPTHS OF MARKOLOS.

The second group arrives in a rare pocket of air in Akvos -- a massive cavern, with multiple alcoves along the walls. Here, the population seems to be rather bleak in comparison to the rainbow-colored folk in the Palace of Wahine -- merpeople with larger eyes, sharper teeth, and darker scales. You have successfully located the hunting grounds of the Kingdom of Akvos, known as the Depths of Markolos -- an impossibly deep sinkhole that stretches into the depths of oblivion.

The local population here doesn't actually know what's at the bottom of it, but lately, there are odd happenings in the Depths that the population will tel you about. For one, dead fish seem to be appearing with increasing frequency, and the temperature of the Depths has dropped to a frigid point. Layers of ice have been found below the surface that were not there previously, and there is plenty of talk of whether or not their food supply for the Kingdom is endangered by whatever is causing this random bout of ice.

There's plenty to explore here, ranging from underwater tunnels (as if you haven't had enough of those) to talking to the local population to exploring various hunting grounds and techniques! Have you ever tried spear-fishing before? Well, you're in lucky, because that angler-fish-merlady is absolutely here to help you hunt, and eager to learn.

ARRIVAL C: THE FIELDS OF AKVOSIA.

The third group will be deposited in a beautiful coral reef, full of color and swaying seaweed. It is an impossibly beautiful sight, and the merpeople here are equally bright and colorful, to blend in with tehir surroundings. There are no shortage of clownfish and angelfish-esque merpeople floating around, collecting plantlife, creating new clothing, or even hunting poisonous smaller fish for usage in their medicinal techniques.

However, the more you explore the fields, the more you begin to notice odd patches of dead coral. It almost looks as if certain random patches were afflicted by some type of illness that has completely robbed it of its color. The merpeople nearby will not know very much about it, but if you continue digging and asking the right people, perhaps you'll find out the source of this sudden illness.

The fields also have a bunch of cool sports! Have you ever gone dolphin-racing? . . . or, well, they look like dolphins, complete with saddles and harnesses that the merfolk are entirely too eager to pass off onto the landfolk. It seems they race these dolphins in the currents for sport in between their collecting of plantlife and hunting. In addition, you can also find what appears to be a weird baseball/rugby crossover sport, in which the merpeople crack hunks of coral with sticks . . . but then tackle each other at the different bases instead of, you know, tapping them lightly to signify them being out.

ARRIVAL D: THE THUNDERDOME.

The last group to arrive may think that this is some type of stupid joke, as the merfolk around this area really do refer to it as the Thunderdome. It is a massive underwater cavern, filled with thousands and thousands of jellyfish. It seems that the merfolk tend to these beings for a multitude of reasons -- one, for food, two, for venom, and three, for . . . electricity?

The jellyfish in this area seem to crackle with energy, and the merfolk in this area will inform you that this is where they obtain power which they charge their weapons and lights with. The bioluminescence is pretty startling to see, and the jellyfish themselves seem to be relatively harmless. But there is a certain area of the Thunderdome that is flickering in and out of darkness . . . an area where the jellyfish seem to be a lot less bright. The merfolk don't really understand what's going on, but whatever is happening in Akvos seems to be affecting the jellyfish in a negative way. They don't seem horribly concerned, but. Here we are.

Here, you can find a slew of really cool weapons -- electrified knives, glow in the dark arrows, and cool swords. You can also snoop around the jellyfish themselves, but be careful not to touch them! They deliver a rather nasty shock, and anyone who touches them will glow a weird blue color for at least three days afterwards. The merpeople seem to know how to fix this, but likely will not do so because they warned you not to touch the damn things, you stupid landfolk.

WORLD INTERACTIONS
In previous worlds, we have had catch-all world interactions for everyone to enjoy. However, in this world, because we are splitting the proverbial party, each different area will have specific questions to ask! As a result, we are going to set up threads for each "group" to ask questions in regards to each separate area. However, here's a catch-all list of expected questions that will apply to all groups!

1.) You will be able to breathe underwater, through some magical force that Astoria has granted you. Aren't you lucky?

2.) Your canon powers will NOT work in Akvos. Only Astoria-granted powers will apply!

3.) For the first two weeks of your time in Akvos, your magical watches will NOT work. You will only be able to communicate with those in your group. After two weeks, your connection will slowly begin to be rebuilt to allow for intermittent text messages. The network will not be fully restored until Phase Two of the Akvos World Jump (aka: the next log).

4.) There are places/pockets of air, but for the most part, you will be entirely underwater for the exploration portion of this log if you want to find anything worthwhile. Have fun?

5.)If you are male/identify as male/have a masculine-type body, the merpeople of Akvos are going to take a bizarre interest in you. There haven't been actual menfolk here in quite some time, and they will absolutely be following you around and asking you questions about what it's like having such variety in your species. Awkward? Probably. But they really do mean well.

6.) There may be some clues to discover in Akvos by asking folks or generally exploring, but before you can really find out too much more, some of you in your group may feel a lingering warmth on your person. And should some of you who happen to travelled to El Minha search your person and locate the golden coin that King Kathashun granted you before you left, you will find that it is warm. And if you move to certain areas, it gets warmer, or cooler. Marco? Polo! What are you going to find here? ;)

7.) The currency of Akvos are seashells! The prettier the seashells, the better.

8.) The shark-guards will be patrolling all areas of Akvos and will therefore be accessible to ask questions, even if you are not in the Palace of Wahine! The Queen will be remaining mostly in the Palace, but may also be found sparingly in the Fields of Akvosia . . . and also the Depths, roughly once per week. She will not be going to the Thunderdome during Phase One. Those that are in the Palace will have the highest chance to speak with her, but don't worry! You can have your opportunity to speak with the Queen during Phases Two and Three of Akvos, and there is plenty of plot to unlock with her throughout the story. :)

MOD NOTE: This is your world to explore. Ask questions, get involved. We as mods are giving you a setting to play with as you'd like! What happens here in Akvos is entirely based on your character's involvement. There will be plenty to interact with, little background plots to get mixed up in, and a city to explore. Ask questions! Pull one of us aside for some cool plotting! Figure out what you want to do and how you want to do it, and go.

Reminder: the log for this world jump will be posted November 12th at 9:00 PM EST. This post is purely for plotting, and there's a place below for questions and for the world interactions! Otherwise, feel free to leave a plotting comment below! Find some other Circle Members to explore with!

Astoria is very excited for you to enjoy your third World Jump~ ♥
