TDM # 6
![]() test drive meme #6 It happens in the blink of an eye. One moment, you are home. Perhaps you are with your family, perhaps you are at work. It's a completely normal day . . . and then, suddenly, your stomach drops. You are overcome with a sudden sense of vertigo. You cannot see up, or down, or where you are. You fall flat on your face. It takes a few seconds for you to gain composure and catch your breath. You are surrounded by ancient stone buildings, with carvings you do not recognize etched into the stone. There's a sense of nausea, overwhelming and sudden, when you realize you aren't in Kansas anymore. . . . or maybe you are. It seems oddly like a state fair, except a bit more mystical, and a bit more . . . well, touched by faerie-magic.. ![]() THE TEMPLE OF BEGINNINGS. Welcome to the "Home Base" of Astoria's Circle. What the actual name of the base is called is lost to the ages, and there's no sense of where you could find it, unless you started asking around. At any rate, this is a central hub of the Circle, a place of powerful magic and mysterious energy. It is a scattering of ancient stone buildings and for the most part, it looks abandoned . . . except for what seems to be a few items, some rooms taken, items moved or organized, even a small garden planted. These are just the smallest hints that there are people here that have been here before you arrived. Overall, it's fairly beautiful. However, it is definitely not modern. Upon exploration, you find that the buildings are kept up by some kind of magic. Some of the rooms have items, things from other Circle members already settled, and others appear to be unclaimed. Pick your rooms, explore the grounds, see the beauty and wonder all around you in such a magical place. Once you're done with that, though, get ready -- there's a carnival in town. FEAST FOR THE PEOPLE. ![]() Regardless, it leads you to a variety of food stands, each and everyone being manned by one of the unseen servants. And lo and behold, you’ll find exactly what you’re looking for: food from the very place you’ve come from. The plates and portions are . . . er, floating in air due to how unseen the servants are, but when you reach forward to have a bite, you are promptly stopped. It seems as though the servants are asking for something in exchange. A sign floats up before you… “The food is free ♥ But first, find someone and show them… Your best smile! A flower! Spring is abound ♥ A neat trick using the power I gave you~” You’d best get on it — of course, you could try to simply steal if you’re hungry enough, but well...we’ll see how well that goes over. Ironically enough, the foods you may not be especially partial to will be offered to you without any trouble. Huh. TEN TICKETS GETS A PENCIL. ![]() Besides, don’t you want those prizes? There is a wide selection of "stuffed animals" made out of grass and flowers to be won, but it all comes down to you. These prizes won't wilt or die, either! How lovely. Additionally, some of the booths give you out some arbitrary amount of tickets, regardless of how well you do. If you win, you seem to get . . . less tickets? But if you lose, you get the lot. Astoria doesn't seem to really get the point of carnival games. There is a booth to turn in said tickets, though! Ten tickets will get you a bright pink pencil. Fifty tickets will get you a kazoo that makes you irresistibly happy for thirty minutes at a time. A hundred tickets will get you a massive stuffed puppy made out of flowers. And two hundred tickets will get you a tiara made out of flowers. . . . these gifts seem to be Astoria-centric, but you'll surely like them, right? LOVE IS IN THE AIR. ![]() The ferris wheel is made entirely from giant leaves and vines, but is still running, and absolutely safe. You might want to jump on it to see the entirety of the Temple . . . in the (near-ish) distance, you can see Lake Dona, stretching on for what appears to be miles. You can see the Forest of the Fey, equally massive and sprawling . . . and neither seems to have an end in sight. But hey, at least you got a free carnival ride. Bumper cars? More like bumper logs, floating in a small lake of sorts that (for those who have been in the Circle for some time) definitely wasn’t there before. Crashing into one another is a load of fun, but if you get up-ended, you might wind up being shoved back into the logs unceremoniously by some kelpies. Where in the heck did they come from? (They're harmless, for the most part. Astoria seems to have recruited the more tame ones.) And, even better, the unseen servants are keen to get new people to know one another! Are you in line with someone you know? Or next to a complete stranger? Either way, you’ll get shuffled into the next cart and put on your way. The Tunnel of Roses is a great place to meet someone, right? It's seemingly sprung up out of absolutely nowhere . . . a dark, quiet, romantic ride on a tiny little boat, just big enough for two! You’ve got some...time to break the ice. The ride apparently lasts four hours. COMMUNICATIONS. ![]() Upon arriving, you will notice on whichever is your non-dominant hand, you will have a fairly simply screen. A smart watch, if you will. Upon exploration, you will find that it has a directory of all those here with you at the Temple of Beginnings- names, and access to a direct message to them. The watch also has video, audio, and text capabilities, as well as what looks like a collection of messages sent to everyone who wishes to open them. This is your 'network', and also how Astoria can reach out and communicate with you. There is nothing keeping you from removing and/or losing your watch! But remember that you will not have access to this network without it. OOC: Also feel free to join us and other possible players on our discord server! enjoy! ♥ |

[ At first, Alto didn't answer. He didn't look down to the people and buildings below either. Instead, he was looking up to the sky and was watching it curiously. Just as many people who just arrived to this world, he too had many questions.
He wondered if he left one false sky for another ...
... and how was he still alive? ]
Hnm?
[ He looked up, finally noticing Mikumo speak. ]
I'm sorry. I was distracted.

[The main Macross fleet Mikumo deals with had long settled on a planet and only temporarily had to move off, so she hasn't really been exposed to the kinds of people who've lived their entire lives on a colony ship rather than planetside. And Ragna had truly beautiful skies, as far as she's concerned, but a sky is a sky - she's never had that pilot's eye for it otherwise.]
1/2
Actually. You are right. I haven't really seen much of the sky before.
A part of me is wondering if it is real. Or maybe I have died and this is all a dream.
2/2
I---I am sorry! I am probably not being pleasant company right now, Miss.
no subject
[Now that he's said it, though, Mikumo has to venture a question about it.] There's a lot of reasons someone might not have been able to see the sky, though. So what's yours?
no subject
He picks up the flier for the carnival someone shoved at him earlier and began to fold it, hoping that it would help him relax enough to speak. It was ironic that though he was an actor, he could not really talk to someone like this in a tight space. ]
The reason is not very hard really. We just didn't have one.

[Ragna has been settled for some time now, and she mostly encounters Ragnans and people who were born on planets other than Earth, but there are still a few older settlers who remember the journey.]

In our world, everyone --- humans and extraterrestrials alike lived in space colonies. The colony I was from had an artificial sky and weather. It was created to resemble 'Earth' as much as possible from what I am told.
[ But in the end, that was it. It was artificial. That sky came with limits that he couldn't break through. That is why this was one different for him. ]
no subject
Your colony didn't happen to be on a Macross-class ship, did it...? [It'd be a funny sort of coincidence, but she knows there's other ships than the one she works out of, even with her limited knowledge of things outside what she was built for. She needed to know enough about the human colonization of space to do her missions properly, too. It definitely sounds a lot like the colony ship on Ragna that those on the planet had to evacuate to when the planet was taken over.]
no subject
That's right. It's the Macross Frontier Colonial Fleet. [ Was she ... ?]
Are we from the same universe? [ That was not impossible. As Klan had set, their universe was huge. She could be from the Galaxy Fleet. ]
no subject
[To her knowledge, at least, which indicates one strong possibility to her. She's heard the stories, but then again, the stories have had close to ten years to filter out to other colonised planets from what happened between the Frontier and Galaxy.] I may be from a little past your time, then. The Macross Elysion, my colony, has been landed for quite a while as well, though I don't know that anything as noteworthy as the Vajra incident happened on our journey.
no subject
He found himself chuckling a little hearing that.
Maybe dying was the best idea he ever had. An impulsive one and arguably a very stupid one, but if it meant that the Vajra were free and the Frontier survived then all that was worth it. ]
Thank you.
[ He opens the window and lets the finished paper plane fly. He watched it fly further and further, envying it a little. ]
North-northeastern wind ... 4 meters per second ...
[ So, the Frontier finally had limitless sky. That was nice. It was a little sad that he couldn't even enjoy it with them ... ]
no subject
She half-turns enough to watch him send the paper plane out. It's quite obvious that he must be very familiar with making them, and judging the conditions he's sending them out in.]
You must have had a long time to resent that lack of sky, but it seems like you've turned that into being prepared for when you did find a real one. [It's productive, at least, and Mikumo can respect that.]
no subject
You could say that. I was a professional pilot before I came here.
no subject
I've known quite a few of those in my time, though most were at least a little older than you. The Elysion has its own squadron to do military work when it's needed.
no subject
You mentioned that there hasn't been any issues with the Vajra. What does the military do?
no subject
[The war hasn't exactly ended, but when one side of it was forced to destroy their own greatest weapon so it wasn't used against them, there's only so much that said side can do to start things up again.]
no subject
I see. I am glad to hear that it is quieting down.
no subject
[And it had only increased the incidences of Var Syndrome, since it had been connected to all of that in the first place. It might be her job to handle those outbreaks, but as far as Mikumo is concerned, less Var can only be a good thing.]
no subject
At the same time, maybe he had asked her enough questions about that. ]
I forgot to ask ... what do you do?
no subject
With a little wink, she forms a w shape with her fingers, index and pinky spread out and middle and ring crossed over in a way that's probably not physically possible for most people.] I'm the lead singer of Walküre, the tactical sound unit that works with Macross Elysion's military. Our members' singing can counteract the effects of Var Syndrome.

After seeing what war had done to Sheryl with her body slowly dying, he can't imagine Mikumo having it easy. During their time, he saw firsthand how they had weaponized Sheryl and later Ranka. Was it the same for her and her friends? ]
Lead singer? So there are more of you?
no subject
[Mikumo's manner in saying that makes it sound like an obvious assumption to anyone when dealing with these kinds of matters, but really, it might just seem obvious to her. Having been engineered for those kinds of situations means her outlook on them can be a little skewed at times.]
no subject
[ Battlefield. They had been weaponized to the extent that they are now part of of the offensive. Women in the battlefield was nothing new. Klan had never hesitated to jump into the heart of of the war and Sheryl and Ranka had been a part of the battle too, so maybe this shouldn't be such a surprising revelation.
Why does war never end? Alto can never understand. What is it about war that seems to come back like roaches? ]
Do you know what happened to Sheryl Nome or Ranka Lee?
[ He was almost afraid to find out. ]
no subject
[She gives a slight wink to him, as if they're sharing some kind of secret. It's unfortunate, but only so much news from other colonies makes it that far out, especially when the distances between them are so vast.]
